Tetsunishi [town] - Tetsunishi

Japanese: 哲西[町] - てっせい

A former town in Atetsu District, in the west of Okayama Prefecture, bordering Hiroshima Prefecture. The main settlements were Ichioka, Yakami, and Nochi (later) which were on the Geibi Line. Yatori prospered by transporting goods to the Yoshioka Copper Mine in the early modern period. The plateau is a production area for Tetsusei beef, and its specialty is Chinese chestnuts. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Niimi City along with Osa Town, Shingo Town, and Tetta Town in Atetsu District. 76.29 ^km2 . 3,250 people (2003).

岡山県西部，広島県に接する阿哲郡の旧町。主集落は芸備線が通じる市岡，矢神，野馳(のち)。八鳥(やとり)は近世吉岡銅山への物資輸送で栄えた。高原部は哲西牛の産地。特産にシナグリがある。2005年３月阿哲郡大佐町，神郷町，哲多町と新見市へ編入。76.29km²。3250人（2003）。
