Ishikari Group - Ishikari Group (English spelling)
The lower half of the Paleogene in the Ishikari Coalfield in Hokkaido is the main part of the coal-bearing seam. It is 800m thick in the Yubari Coalfield in the south and 2400m thick in the Sorachi Coalfield in the north. It is made up of continental and marine deposits, and the shell fossils in the marine deposits are called the Ishikari Fauna, and indicate a climate change from subtropical to temperate.
