Jeong Gwang-jo (English spelling) Zhèng Guāng zǔ

Japanese: 鄭光祖 - ていこうそ（英語表記）Zhèng Guāng zǔ

A Chinese dramatist of the Yuan dynasty. His birth and death years are unknown. His pen name was Dehui. He was from Pingyang (Linfen), Shanxi Province. He moved to Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, the center of late Yuan dynasty, and served as an official on the Hangzhou Road, so his main period of activity as a writer must have been the first half of the 14th century. He was a dignified gentleman well educated in Confucianism, and of his 18 works, only works that remain to this day include "Wang Candeng Lou," "E Plum Fragrance," and "Qian Nu Li Soul." His pedantic lyrics, which made full use of his education, appealed to the tastes of people in the Ming dynasty, and he is counted as one of the four great Yuan dynasty writers.

中国，元代の戯曲作家。生没年不明。字は徳輝。山西省平陽(臨汾（りんふん）)の人。後期元曲の中心である浙江省杭州に移住，杭州路の役人をも務めたから，作家活動の中心は14世紀の前半であろう。儒学の教養もゆたかな謹厳の紳士で，作品18編のうち《王粲登楼（おうさんとうろう）》《㑳梅香（すうばいこう）》《倩女離魂（せんじよりこん）》などが現存する。その教養を駆使したペダンティックな歌詞が，明代人の嗜好に投じ，元曲四大家の一人に数えられている。
