A brown algae of the family Laminariales and family Turbidaceae. It grows on rocks in the bathyal zone where the waves are relatively calm. It is brown, 2-5 mm in diameter, and string-like in shape, several meters long. It is hollow and contains gas inside, so the upper part floats on the water surface. It is found in Kyushu, Honshu, Hokkaido, the Korean peninsula, China, the west coast of North America, and the Atlantic Ocean.
