This is the easternmost inlet of Wakasa Bay, located in central Fukui Prefecture. It is a depression whose mouth runs from Cape Tateishi on the Tsuruga Peninsula to the west, to Okazaki in Suizu to the east, and the 20-meter isobath runs along the coast, reaching 11 meters within Tsuruga Port. Apart from the Tsuruga Plain, a depression-like lowland that continues to the south, the bay coast is lacking in flat land, but the landscape of small capes, bays, and sandy beaches makes up Wakasa Bay Quasi-National Park west of Matsubara Coast, and Echizen Kaga Coast Quasi-National Park in Suizu on the east coast. Fishing within the bay is sluggish, and the east coast is entirely made up of farming villages with their backs to the sea.
