Tsuruga Wakasa no Jō

Japanese: 鶴賀若狭掾 - つるがわかさのじょう
Tsuruga Wakasa no Jō
The founder of the Shinnai-bushi Tsuruga school. His real name was Shobei Takai. He was from Tsuruga, Echizen (Fukui Prefecture). He studied under Miyakoji Kagadayu (later Fujimatsu Satsuma-no-jo), and after becoming independent he changed his name to Asahi Wakasa-no-jo and then Tsuruga Wakasa-no-jo. He formed an alliance with fellow student Tsuruga Shinnai as a guest performer, and perfected the Shinnai-bushi style of Ozashiki Joruri. His signature pieces are "Akegarasu" and "Rancho". From the 2nd year of the Kyoho period to the 6th year of the Tenmei period ( 1717-1786 ).
