Árpád - Árpád (English spelling)

He was the founder of the first Hungarian dynasty, the Árpád dynasty (until 1301). As the head of the Magyar tribal confederation and one of its tribes, the Mejer tribe, which later retained the name Magyar, he led the tribes under the great chief Kursan, invaded the Carpathian Basin in 895, and conquered the area. At this time, there is a legend that he declared, "The land between the Danube and the Tisza belongs to my ancestor, Attila the Great." After Kursan's death in 904, he became the great chief and began the work of unifying the tribes. During this time, he led his troops on an expedition to Germany and Italy, and received tributes from the kings of each region. After his death, his body was buried at the source of a stream that flows into Old Buda (the old town of Budapest).

ハンガリー最初の王朝アールパード朝（～1301）の始祖。マジャール部族連合首長およびその一部族で、のちにマジャールの名を残すメジェル部族の長として、大首長クルサーンのもとで諸部族を指揮し、895年にカルパティア盆地に侵入、その地を征服した。このとき、「ドナウとティサに囲まれし大地は余が祖先たる、かのアッティラ大王のものなり」と宣したという伝説が残っている。クルサーンが904年に没したのち大首長となり、諸部族統一の事業を始めた。この間、兵を率いてドイツ、イタリアに遠征し、各地の王から貢ぎ物を受けた。死後その遺体は、古ブダ（ブダペストの旧市街）に注ぐ小川の源に埋葬された。
