Mr. Tsuchiya

(1) A medieval samurai family whose main territory was Tsuchiya in Yoroki County, Sagami Province. The family was a branch of the powerful Nakamura clan in the western part of Sagami Province, descended from the Kanmu Heishi clan. The family began when Nakamura Shoji Muneto, the third son of Nakamura Shoji Muneto, took possession of Tsuchiya and made it the land of his family name. Muneto participated in the uprising of Minamoto no Yoritomo in 1180 (Jisho 4) along with his sons, and after the defeat, he was ordered by Yoritomo, who was planning to regain his power and attack the Heishi clan, to descend to Kai, where he is known for encouraging Takeda Nobuyoshi and others to join the army. However, in 1209 (Shogen 3), he failed in an attempt to assassinate Kajiwara Iemochi, and was entrusted with the care of Wada Yoshimori after his weapons were confiscated.

(1)相模国余綾（よろき）郡土屋を本領とする中世武家。桓武平氏の流れをくむ相模国西部の雄族中村氏の一族で，中村荘司宗平の三男宗遠（むねとお）が土屋を領して名字の地としたことにはじまる。宗遠は1180年(治承4)の源頼朝挙兵に子息らとともに参加し，敗走後再び勢力を増して平氏迎撃を企図する頼朝の命をうけて甲斐に下り，武田信義らの参軍を促すなどその活躍が知られる。しかし1209年(承元3)梶原家茂を殺害しようとして失敗，兵具召上げのうえ，和田義盛に預けの身となる。
