...However, scholars differ in opinion as to the position of the Alpine languages ​​within the Australasian language family. Some theories divide the Australasian languages ​​into the Western (Indonesian) and Oceanian branches, with the Alpine languages ​​belonging to the former, others divide the Australasian languages ​​into two major branches: the Taiwanese (Alpine languages) and others, others divide the Australasian languages ​​into three major branches: the Taiwanese, Western, and Oceanian, and still others divide the Australasian languages ​​into four major branches: the Atayal, Tsou, Paiwan (all three of these branches are Alpine languages), and the Malayo-Polynesian.
