Tsugaru Clan

A powerful clan that lived in the Tsugaru region of Mutsu Province, the northernmost part of the Tohoku region. Lord of Hirosaki Domain. The first Tsugaru lord, Tamenobu, is famous as a strategist among the Sengoku daimyo, but as an illegitimate son of Konoe Hisamichi, he initially took the surname Oura, and later unified Tsugaru and became the ancestor of the Tsugaru clan. One theory is that he was the son of Takeda Kiinokami Morinobu, lord of Horikoshi Castle. In 1590 (Tensho 18), Toyotomi Hideyoshi granted him 45,000 koku of land after he participated in the Odawara Campaign, and after the Battle of Sekigahara, he became an outside daimyo with a stipend of 47,000 koku and made Hirosaki Castle his residence. In 1808 (Bunka 5), ​​the clan was awarded an additional 100,000 koku as a reward for its contributions to the defense of northern Ezo, and for about 300 years, until the 12th head of the clan, Tsuguakira, they prospered as the leader of Mutsu Province.

東北地方の最北端陸奥国(むつのくに)津軽地方に居住した豪族。弘前(ひろさき)藩主。初代津軽為信(ためのぶ)は戦国大名の戦略家として名高いが、近衛尚通(このえひさみち)の庶子として初め大浦姓を称し、のち津軽統一を行って津軽氏の祖となった。一説に堀越(ほりこし)城主武田紀伊守守信(たけだきいのかみもりのぶ)の子とも伝える。1590年（天正18）小田原参陣により豊臣秀吉(とよとみひでよし)より4万5000石を安堵(あんど)され、関ヶ原の戦い以後は弘前城を居城とする表高4万7000石を領有する外様大名(とざまだいみょう)。1808年（文化5）には北方蝦夷地(えぞち)警備の功労として10万石に加増され、12代承昭(つぐあきら)まで約300年間陸奥国の雄として栄えた。分家に黒石の津軽家がある。
