Fukuchi [village] - Fukuchi

Japanese: 福地[村] - ふくち
Fukuchi [village] - Fukuchi
A village in Sannohe County in the southeastern part of Aomori Prefecture. Population 6,826 (1995). It occupies the middle reaches of the Mabechi River. It was developed by the Nanbu clan in the Middle Ages as a horse-breeding area. Currently, rice is grown in the Mabechi River alluvial plain, and tobacco and apples are cultivated on the hills. It is the area with the least snowfall in the prefecture, but is susceptible to cold damage from Yamase (an easterly wind) in the summer. In 1961, Tomabecchi Station was newly opened on the Tohoku Main Line, which runs along the Mabechi River, and in 1964 it was designated as a new industrial urban area in the Hachinohe District. The population is increasing as a commuter residential area for Hachinohe City.
