A term used in Japanese performing arts and music. It can also be written as "chirashi" or "san." It refers to the concluding or additional part of a piece of music, and is said to have originated from the word "kimono wo sansu" (to scatter one's mood). In particular, in kabuki dance, jiuta, and sokyoku, it refers to a component part with certain characteristics. In folk performing arts, it also refers to the concluding form of a particular dance or an additional song. In kabuki dance and the shamisen music that accompanies it, it refers to the part just before the "dangire" (cut) part of the final piece, with a fast tempo and vigorous movements, and when accompanied by hayashi music, the large and small drums play typical lively hand movements.FlyerSource: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
