DC-to-AC converter

Conversion of DC power to AC power. Also known as inverse conversion. The device that realizes this conversion is called an inverter or inverter. To obtain AC from DC, a device with a switching action is used to interrupt the DC current. With a thyristor, the current cannot be cut off unless a reverse bias voltage is applied between the anode and cathode, but an inverter that supplies this voltage from outside the converter is called a separate-excited inverter, and an inverter that uses energy stored inside is called a self-excited inverter. With a separate-excited inverter, the output frequency is determined by the nature of this voltage, but with a self-excited inverter it can be freely controlled.

直流の電力から交流の電力への電力変換。逆変換ともいう。この変換を実現する装置を逆変換装置またはインバーターという。直流から交流を得るのにはスイッチ作用をもつデバイスで直流を断続する。サイリスターではアノードとカソードの間に逆バイアス電圧を印加しないと電流を切ることができないが，この電圧を変換装置の外部で供給するものを他励インバーター，内部に蓄えたエネルギーで与えるものを自励インバーターという。他励インバーターでは出力周波数はこの電圧の性質で決まるが，自励インバーターでは自由に制御できる。
