A perennial plant of the Ranunculaceae family (APG classification: Ranunculaceae). The stems can reach a height of up to 2 meters, making it magnificent. The roots contain toxic alkaloids. The leaves are circular with 5-7 lobes. They flower in sparse panicles from August to October, and are bluish-purple. It resembles Sanyobushi, but Octorikabuto can be distinguished by the densely hairy flower stalks. It is found in Honshu from the Chubu region northwards, mainly on the Sea of Japan side, and in southwestern Hokkaido.
