Isokani deception - Isokani deception

A crab-shaped marine animal belonging to the family Crabidae, order Decapoda, class Crustacea. Taxonomically, it is included in the suborder Anomura along with hermit crabs. It is the most common crab found off the coast of Japan, and is distributed from Sagami Bay to Okinawa, the Korean peninsula, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and the Mergui Archipelago in southern Myanmar (Burma). Many individuals can be found gathering under slightly larger stones on open-ocean rocks. Its carapace is about 1 cm long and has a slightly elongated rounded triangular shape. The carapace is smooth and hairless, and lacks prebranchial spines and supraocular spines. It has three spines near the rear end of the arm segment of the chelicerae and one at the base of the front edge, and adults have one tooth in the center of the front edge. The carapace is uniformly dark brown in color, and the ventral surface is whitish. Closely related species are often found in coral reefs, and 17 species are known from Japan.

節足動物門甲殼綱十脚(じっきゃく)目カニダマシ科に属するカニ型の海産動物。分類学的にはヤドカリ類などとともに異尾亜目に含まれる。日本の沿岸でもっとも普通にみられるカニダマシで、相模(さがみ)湾から沖縄、朝鮮半島、香港(ホンコン)、インドネシア、ミャンマー（ビルマ）南部のメルギー諸島に分布する。外洋性の磯(いそ)のやや大きめの石の下に多数の個体が集まっていることがある。甲長約1センチメートルで、やや縦長の丸みを帯びた三角形。甲面は滑らかで毛はなく、鰓前棘(さいぜんきょく)、眼上棘ともにない。はさみ脚(あし)の腕節の後縁末端近くに3本、前縁基部に1本のとげがあり、成体では前縁中央部に1歯ある。甲面は一様に濃い緑褐色で、腹面は白っぽい。近縁種はサンゴ礁に多く、日本からは17種が知られている。
