A representative modern book on the theory of the tea ceremony. Written by Okakura Tenshin. One volume. Tenshin wrote this book in English in 1906 (Meiji 39) when he was an advisor to the Oriental Department of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, to introduce Japanese culture. The original title is "The Book of Tea." It consists of seven chapters, and presents his unique views on the aesthetic sense of wabi-cha tea, tea utensils as expressions of beauty, history, tea rooms, flowers, etc. through the lens of Taoist thought. After being published in America, it was translated into Sweden, Germany, France, and Spanish, and was also translated into Japanese (1929).
