The Book of Tea - Cha no Hon

A representative modern book on the theory of the tea ceremony. Written by Okakura Tenshin. One volume. Tenshin wrote this book in English in 1906 (Meiji 39) when he was an advisor to the Oriental Department of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, to introduce Japanese culture. The original title is "The Book of Tea." It consists of seven chapters, and presents his unique views on the aesthetic sense of wabi-cha tea, tea utensils as expressions of beauty, history, tea rooms, flowers, etc. through the lens of Taoist thought. After being published in America, it was translated into Sweden, Germany, France, and Spanish, and was also translated into Japanese (1929).

近代を代表する茶道理論の書。岡倉天心著。一冊。1906年（明治39）ボストン美術館の東洋部顧問をしていた天心が、日本文化紹介のために英文で書いたのが本書である。原題は『The Book of Tea』。全体は7章からなり、わび茶の美意識と、美の表現としての茶器、歴史、茶室、花などについて道教の思想を通して独自の見解を述べている。アメリカで出版されたあと、スウェーデン、ドイツ、フランス、スペイン語に訳され、邦訳（昭和4）もある。
