A Russian plant physiologist. Graduated from St. Petersburg State University. Professor at Moscow State University. Researched the relationship between photosynthesis and the wavelength of light. Gaining international fame, he was awarded honorary doctorates from many universities, including Cambridge University. He also introduced C.
