Typhus - Typhus (English spelling) German

Colloquially known as "chibusu," it refers to typhoid fever in Japan and is sometimes written as "chofusu." In English, it is pronounced "taifus" and refers to rash typhoid, which is also called typhoid. The etymology comes from the Greek word typhos, which means "dazed," and it was named clinically because the high fever caused the patient to be in a dim mental state, and initially included both typhoid fever and rash typhoid fever.

Japanese:

俗にチブスともいい、日本では腸チフスのことをさし、窒扶斯と書かれたこともある。英語ではタイファスと発音し、発疹(はっしん)チフスをさし、腸チフスはタイフォイドtyphoidとよばれる。語源は「ぼんやりした」という意味のギリシア語typhosに由来し、高熱によって患者の精神状態がぼんやりしているということから臨床的に命名されたものであり、当初は腸チフスも発疹チフスも含まれていた。
