Chitose [Village] - Chitose

Japanese: 千歳[村] - ちとせ

A village in Ono County, southern Oita Prefecture. Population 2,760 (1995). Located on the north bank of the midstream Ono River. The Ono River runs through the southern part of the town, while its tributary, the Akane River, flows east through the center. National Route 57 runs along the Akane River, and the central settlement of Niidono is located there. The main industry is agriculture, with rice, wheat, and tobacco grown, and sericulture has been popular since ancient times. In recent years, the number of full-time farmers has increased due to the expansion of scale, and efforts are also being made in livestock farming and greenhouse horticulture. There are many stone cultural assets, such as the pagoda and torii gates of Hirao Shrine, and the strange Gourd Festival is held at Shibayama Hachiman Shrine.

大分県南部，大野郡の村。人口2760(1995)。大野川中流北岸に位置する。南部を大野川，中央部を支流の茜川が東流し，茜川に沿って国道57号線が走り，中心集落の新殿（にいどの）がある。主産業は農業で，米，麦，タバコが栽培され，古くから養蚕も盛んである。近年，規模拡大による専業農家が増加し，畜産や施設園芸にも力を入れている。平尾神社の宝塔，鳥居など石造文化財が多く，柴山八幡社では奇祭ひょうたん祭が行われる。
