Kanroji Motonaga

Japanese: 甘露寺元長 - かんろじ もとなが
Kanroji Motonaga
1457-1527 A nobleman and poet from the Muromachi to Sengoku period.
Born in the first year of the Choroku era. Son of Kanroji Chikanaga. After serving as a councilor, he became Gon Dainagon in 1517, and advanced to the rank of Juichii in 1520. He loved the flute and was skilled in poetry. He served Emperor Go-Tsuchimikado and Emperor Go-Kashiwabara, and was active in poetry gatherings and linked verse gatherings at the Imperial Court together with Sanjonishi Sanetaka. He died on August 17, 1820, at the age of 71.

長禄(ちょうろく)元年生まれ。甘露寺親長の子。参議などをへて永正(えいしょう)14年(1517)権(ごんの)大納言となり,大永(たいえい)6年従一位にすすんだ。笛をこのみ,詩歌にたくみであった。後土御門(ごつちみかど)天皇,後柏原天皇につかえ,三条西実隆とともに宮中の歌会や連歌会で活躍した。大永7年8月17日死去。71歳。
