Year of birth: Unknown He is said to have been involved in diplomacy with Korea in the 4th and 5th centuries. One theory is that he was from Musashi Province. When it was discovered in the 47th year of the regency of Empress Jingu that Silla had seized tribute from Baekje and paid it to the shogun, he was sent to Silla as an envoy to investigate the matter. In the 49th year, when he attacked Silla under the command of Arata-wake and Kaga-wake, he is said to have climbed Mount Beiji (Gimje, North Jeolla Province) and Mount Gosa (Gofuku, North Jeolla Province) with the king of Baekje and made a pact. This corresponds to the name Shokumananagahikage in the Baekje-ki, which is quoted in the Nihon Shoki. There are two theories about the relationship between the two: one is that similar documents existed in Wa and Baekje, and the other is that the editor of the Shokuji who came across the entries in the Baekje-ki used Japanese characters, but the latter theory seems more likely.
