A switch used to keep an electric circuit "open" or "closed" and is used in high-voltage circuits of 3,000 volts to ultra-high-voltage circuits of 500,000 volts. For this reason, a disconnecting switch is not required to extinguish arcs when opening and closing. However, it must be able to cut off small charging currents over a very short range up to a circuit breaker with current-cutting capabilities. For this reason, some high-voltage disconnecting switches are equipped with an arc-extinguishing horn, and are sometimes called line switches. There are single-pole and three-pole disconnecting switches, and single-pole disconnecting switches are often operated manually using an insulating rod (hook metal fitting) ( ), while three-pole disconnecting switches are often operated by compressed air or electromagnetic force and can also be operated remotely.A disconnecting switch is used to remove voltage from a part of an electric circuit and keep it in the "open" state during maintenance and inspection of power equipment or when changing the configuration of the electric circuit. For this reason, it is used in series with a circuit breaker or major equipment of an electric circuit or as a link between busbars. Also, as shown in , when busbar A and busbar B are connected by another busbar connecting circuit, the opening and closing operation to switch from busbar A to busbar B is performed by a disconnecting switch.[Masami Okamura and Yoshifumi Oura] [Reference] |©Shogakukan "> Structure of a single-pole disconnector (Figure A) ©Shogakukan "> Example of disconnector installation (circuit diagram) [Figure B] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
