Dala River (English spelling)

Japanese: ダーラ[川]（英語表記）Dalaelva

A river that flows southeast through the Koppelberg region in central Sweden and empties into the Bay of Bothnia at Gävle, 80 km north of Uppsala. It is also called the Dal. Its total length is 520 km, and its drainage basin is Sweden's fourth largest. The first 150 km from its mouth is called the Dala, and the upper reaches split into the Vesterdalälv and Østerdalälv, the latter of which originates in the Hedmark region of Norway. It is a major producer of hydroelectric power and is also an important route for timber rafting. The town of Sandviken, famous for Swedish steel saws, is located on the north bank, 20 km upstream from the mouth.
