[1] An artificial pond for storing water for irrigation. Also, figuratively, a place where things gather. *Haiku poem Gyokukaishu (1656) vol. 1 "Tameike wa willow thread no goke ya" [2][1] A pond located in the lowlands of Akasaka, Minato Ward, Tokyo. It was used as drinking water (Tameike Aqueduct) until the early Edo period, but with the completion of the Tamagawa Aqueduct, it began to be filled in, and by the early Meiji period it had become completely land. Hyotanbori. Otameike. [2] The name of a place that was located in Akasaka 1-2-chome, Minato Ward, Tokyo. It remains in the names of intersections and subway lines. Former Akasaka Tameikecho.
