Formerly known as Fort-la-Prine, this oasis town is located at the southern foot of Mount Tahat in the Hoggar Mountains in southeastern Algeria. It began as a citadel built to protect the trans-Saharan trade route. Although it is located at an altitude of 1,378m, it has once recorded the world's highest temperature in the shade, exceeding 40°C. Its magnificent scenery has made it a tourist destination.
