Noh piece. Fourth piece. Five-school current piece. Kanze school is written as "Tamazura". Written by Konparu Zenchiku. Source is "Tamazura" chapter of "The Tale of Genji". A woman rowing a boat (mae shite) guides a monk (waki) who visits Hase Kannon to two cedar trees. Tamazura, who has been toyed with by a strange fate, tells him how he met a maid of his late mother, Yugao, here, and vanishes, hinting that she is her ghost. At the monk's funeral, Tamazura's spirit (noto shite) appears, complains about his suffering from delusions, and repents of his past, but eventually attains nirvana and vanishes. Treated as a madwoman piece, the theme is unclear. This is a Noh play that emotionally depicts a young woman's melancholy and fear of the opposite sex.
