Born: July 9, 1889 in Liege
[Died] August 15, 1971. Leuven. Belgian legal philosopher. Studied at the University of Liage and became a professor, and taught at the University of Leuven from 1922. Founded in Neo-Thomism, he was characterized by his view of natural law only in an ethical or political sense, and his denial of natural law as law. His main work was "The General Theory of Law" (1943).

ベルギーの法哲学者。リージュ大学で学んで教職につき，1922年からルーバン大学で教える。新トマス主義 (→新トマス派 ) に立脚するが，自然法を倫理的ないし政治的な意味においてのみとらえ，法としての自然法を否定する点に特色がある。主著『法の一般理論』 Théorie générale du droit (1943) 。
