Dunedin
A port city in the Otago region in the southeast of New Zealand's South Island. Industries include chemical fertilizer, cement, textiles, food processing, and machinery, and the city exports wool and frozen meat. It has a university (established in 1869). Founded by Scottish immigrants in 1848, it developed after the discovery of gold in the Otago region in 1861. Population: 110,997 (2006).
