Darts (English spelling)

Darts (English spelling)
A game in which players throw darts at a circular target (dartboard) and compete for points. The dartboard is divided into 20 equal parts radially from the small circle in the center, and each part is given a score from 1 to 20. There are also thin circular bands around the small circle in the center, on the outer periphery, and in the middle. The small circle in the center is worth 50 points, the surrounding bands are worth 25 points, the outer bands are worth twice the score of that part, and the middle band is worth three times the score of that part. In the game, players throw three arrows with weights and feathers, each about 16 cm long, from a distance of about 2.5 m, and the points of the parts that hit the target are subtracted from a total of 301 points. The first person to reach 0 points wins. Darts is most popular in England, where it has been known since the time of Henry VIII in the 16th century, and it is recorded that the colony founding party enjoyed playing darts on board the Mayflower in 1620. The World Darts Federation (WDF) was founded in London in 1976, and Japan joined in 1977. It now has more than 500,000 members from 50 countries. In the 1980s, darts became more popular around the world as dartboards became electronic, and by the early 1990s the number of players in the United States had reached more than 17 million.
