Date of birth and death unknown. A Chinese poet of the mid-Heian period. In 937 (Shohei 7), he passed the countermeasures test. He served as Togu Gakushi, Daigaku no Kami, Monjo Hakase, and other positions, and held the highest position of Shikibu no Taifu (Junior Fourth Rank, Lower). In 949 (Tenryaku 3), together with Oe no Asatsuna and Sugawara no Fumitoki, he presented the "Kongenroku Byobushi" (Poems on the Screen of the Kungenroku) to the emperor, making him one of the leading literary figures of his time. In 954, when he applied for the position of Minister of Civil Affairs, he drafted and submitted a petition (Honcho Monzui), which, despite its inappropriate wording, was praised by Emperor Murakami. The story goes that this petition was widely disseminated (Kokoncho Monju, Jikkinsho, Godansho), and gave rise to the picture scroll Naokikan Monzu Ekotoba (mid-13th century).
