Chinese female writer. Her real name was Xie Wanying. She was from Fujian Province. While studying at Union Women's University in Beijing (later merged into Yenching University), she began writing under the influence of the May Fourth Movement, and in 1919, she became well-known for her "problematic novels" such as "This Man Alone and Haunted." In 1921, she joined the Literature Research Society. She published novels such as "Superman," which is based on the "philosophy of love" that praises a mother's love. In 1923, she studied at Wellesley College in the United States, and returned to China in 1926 to become a teacher at Yenching University. In 1929, she married sociologist Wu Wenzao. During the Anti-Japanese War, she moved to Yunnan, but in 1946, she came to Japan with her husband, who had become a member of the Chinese Embassy in Japan, and lectured on Chinese literature at the University of Tokyo and other institutions. After returning to China after the revolution in 1951, he held important positions such as representative to the National People's Congress, and was mainly active in the field of children's literature, with works such as "Tao Qi's Summer Vacation Diary" and "Orange Lantern." Since the end of 1982, the five volumes of "Bing Xin Collection" have been published. His works are simple and pure, and frankly express a consistent and inquisitive attitude toward life.

中国の女流作家。本名謝婉瑩(えんえい)。福建(ふっけん/フーチエン)省の人。北京(ペキン)の協和女子大学(のちに燕京(えんきょう)大学に合併)に在学中、五・四運動の影響の下に執筆を始め、1919年『この人ひとりやつれはて』などの「問題小説」によって一躍文名を知られる。21年文学研究会に参加。母の愛を賛美する「愛の哲学」を基調とした小説『超人』などを発表。23年アメリカのウェルズリー大学に留学、26年に帰国して燕京大学の教員となり、29年社会学者呉文藻と結婚。抗日戦争中は雲南に移ったが、46年駐日代表部員となった夫とともに来日、東大その他で中国文学を講じた。51年、革命後の中国に帰国した後は全国人民代表大会代表などの要職につくとともに、主として児童文学の分野で活躍、『タオ・チーの夏休み日記』『みかんの提灯(ちょうちん)』などの作品がある。82年末から『冰心文集』全5巻が刊行されている。その作品は平易で清らかであり、人生に対する一貫した探求的態度が率直に表現されている。
