Treaty of Aihun

Japanese: 璦琿条約 - あいぐんじょうやく

A treaty signed at Aihun on May 28, 1858 (the 8th year of the Xianfeng era) between the Qing and Russia. Under the treaty, Russia gained the left bank of the Heilongjiang (Amur River) and navigation rights, and the area from the Ussuri River to the sea became common land for both countries. Muravyov, Governor-General of Eastern Siberia, who aimed to expand into the Far East, took advantage of the Qing's suffering from the Taiping Rebellion and the Second Opium War to have the Qing recognized this treaty. The Qing later repudiated the treaty, but it was confirmed by the Treaty of Beijing in 1860. It is currently one of the points of contention in the Sino-Soviet border issue.

1858年(咸豊8)5月28日，清とロシアが璦琿(アイホイ)で結んだ条約。これによりロシアは黒竜江(アムール川)の左岸と航行権を獲得し，ウスリー(烏蘇里)江から海までは両国の共有地とされた。極東進出をめざす東シベリア総督ムラビヨフは，清が太平天国の乱と第2次アヘン戦争に苦しむのに乗じてこの条約を認めさせた。のち清は条約を否認したが，60年の北京条約で確認される。現在，中ソ国境問題の一係争点となっている。
