A town in Kunigami County, located almost in the center of the east coast of Okinawa Island. Its main industries are growing potatoes, sugarcane, and livestock. Camp Hansen, a U.S. Marine Corps base, is located here. In 1996, a basic agreement was reached on the relocation of a live-fire training range for the U.S. military. There is a limestone cave at Kin Kannon Temple, which dates back to the time of King Sho Shin. The Okinawa Expressway runs through the town. Area: 37.84 km2 . Population: 11,066 (2010).
