Ātreya (English spelling) Atreya

...Already in the 6th century BCE, there were two centers of medicine. The Ātreya school, which specialized in internal medicine, was active in Taxila in the northwest, and the Dhanvantari school, which also incorporated surgical treatment, was active in Varanasi in the east. The former placed particular importance on the ethics of doctors, and in its compendium, the Charaka Samhita, it detailed how to identify a good doctor, how to teach, and how to treat patients, encouraged discussion with other doctors, and also described how to debate.
