Wolff, O.

...A method of treating mental disorders by administering sedative and hypnotic drugs to induce a sustained state of drowsiness or sleep. It began with O. Wolff (1901) using Trional, and then J. Kläsi (1921) used Somniphen to treat patients with early onset dementia and confusion, making it a method of treatment for mental illness. In Japan, Sulfonal was used by Mitsuzo Shimoda (1922) to treat patients with manic-depressive illness, and there was a time when this was widely used.
