Rootstock - Daigi (English name) stock
The part where the scion is joined in grafting. Grafting is when the scion and rootstock are joined together and coexist, and the rootstock affects the growth, chemical composition, germination, flowering time, and fruit set of the scion, and the rootstock is also influenced by the growth and morphology of the scion. There are three types of rootstocks: those made from the same species as the scion (common rootstocks), those made from plants resistant to specific diseases and pests (immune rootstocks), and those made from plants resistant to specific diseases and pests (dwarf rootstocks), which dwarf the plant and speed up fruit set. Tree species used include apples - Mitsubakaido and Marubakaido; citrus fruits - trifoliate orange and yuzu; and pears, peaches, chestnuts, persimmons, plums, plums, and apricots - common rootstocks. They are mostly grown by seed, but can also be grown by layering and cuttings.
