There are about six species of epiphytic orchid native to Brazil. It grows to 5-8cm tall. In winter, it produces 1-4 flowers, each 2-4cm in diameter, which are mostly red. It is used as a parent for crossing with Cattleya and Laelia. It is cultivated in a greenhouse at 17°C or higher in winter and in the shade of a tree in summer.
