Sophronitis

There are about six species of epiphytic orchid native to Brazil. It grows to 5-8cm tall. In winter, it produces 1-4 flowers, each 2-4cm in diameter, which are mostly red. It is used as a parent for crossing with Cattleya and Laelia. It is cultivated in a greenhouse at 17°C or higher in winter and in the shade of a tree in summer. ブラジル原産の着生ランで，約６種ある。草たけ５〜8cm。冬，径２〜4cmの花を１〜４個つけ，花色は赤色系が多い。カトレアやレリアとの交雑親に使われる。冬季17℃以上の温室で，夏季は木陰で栽培。繁殖は株分けによる。
