Soffici - Soffici (English spelling) Ardengo Soffici

Italian critic and painter. During his stay in Paris he was friends with Picasso and Apollinaire. After returning to Japan, he introduced French avant-garde literature and painting through the magazines "Voce" and "La Cerva". During this time he had a fierce debate with the Futurists, but later gradually drew closer to them. After World War I he suddenly called for the restoration of tradition and leaned towards Fascism. His works are collected in the eight-volume Collected Works of Ardengo Soffici (1959-68).

イタリアの批評家、画家。パリ滞在中にピカソ、アポリネールらと交友。帰国後、『ボーチェ』『ラチェルバ』の両誌に拠(よ)って、フランス前衛文学、絵画の紹介にあたる。この間、未来派と激しい論争を行うが、その後はしだいに同派に接近。第一次世界大戦後は一転して伝統の復権を唱え、ファシズムに傾斜した。作品は『アルデンゴ・ソッフィチ全集』全八巻（1959～68）に収められる。
