An old town in Tagawa County, Fukuoka Prefecture. The Ita Line of the Heisei Chikuho Railway runs through the town. Since the mid-Meiji period, it has rapidly developed as a mining town in the Chikuho coalfields, producing bituminous coal for fuel, but the population suddenly dropped once the main coal mine closed. A specialty of the town is Agano ware, one of the seven Enshu kilns. In March 2006, it merged with Kanada Town and Hojo Town in Tagawa County to become Fukuchi Town in Tagawa County. Area: 16.20 km2 . Population: 10,158 (2001). Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
