Japanese: 河内漢 - かわちのあや
Kawachi Kan - Kawachi no Aya

...They are said to be descendants of Emperor Ling of the Later Han Dynasty, and are considered to be on a par with the Hata clan, which is said to be the descendants of Emperor Qin Shi Huang. They split into two branches, the Eastern Han (Wa-han) and the Western Han (Kawachi-han), and continued to exist as a large clan by adding the Imaki-no-ayahito who later came to Japan. The Eastern Han expanded its influence mainly in Takaichi District, Yamato Province, and by the 7th century, it had split into many clans with direct surnames, such as Sakanoue, Fumi, Tami, Ikebe, and Aratai, and was renamed Imiki in the eight-color surname system of Emperor Tenmu. In the 8th and 9th centuries, the Sakanoue clan took a leading role in the political world, and some clans were given the titles of Sukune and Osukune.
