Draft system

A system by which teams acquire the right to negotiate with players in professional sports. Draft means conscription. It is also practiced in American professional baseball and professional American football, but in Japanese professional baseball it is called the "rookie player selection regulation" and was introduced in 1965. Teams acquire the right to negotiate with players they wish to nominate by drawing lots at the annual draft meeting. It was started to prevent the soaring signing bonuses and the imbalance of strength between teams, but there was also criticism that the personnel selection by lottery restricts the freedom of players. In 1993, it was partially revised, and two players per team were designated as designated players, and players who were nominated by multiple teams can choose the team of their choice. This is called "reverse nomination," but reverse nomination is not possible for high school players, and the team is decided by lottery. This change has largely lost the original meaning of the draft system.

プロスポーツの選手に対し，チームが入団契約の交渉権を獲得するための一制度。draftは徴兵の意。米国のプロ野球やプロ・アメリカン・フットボールでも行われているが，日本のプロ野球では〈新人選手選択規定〉といい，1965年より導入。年１回のドラフト会議で抽選により球団が指名希望選手に対する交渉権を獲得する。契約金の高騰やチーム間の戦力のアンバランスを防ぐために始められたが，くじによる人事は選手の自由を束縛するとの批判もあった。1993年より一部見直しされ，１球団２人を指定枠採用選手とし，複数球団から指名された選手は自身の希望する球団を選ぶことができる。これを〈逆指名〉と呼んでいるが，高校生選手の場合は逆指名はできず，抽選で決められる。この変更によってドラフト制度本来の意義は大きく失われた。
