Sennan [village] - Sennan

Japanese: 仙南[村] - せんなん

A village in Senboku District, central Akita Prefecture. Population 8,803 (1995). Located almost in the center of the Yokote Basin, most of the village area is made up of alluvial plains of the Omono River and alluvial fans of the Kuriyagawa River, a tributary of the Omono River. Most of the cultivated land is rice paddies, and the village is one of the leading rice monoculture farming villages in the district in terms of both rice production and yield per unit area. The village is well-connected by the Ou Main Line and National Route 13, but it borders Yokote City and Omagari City and commercial activities are not strong. A specialty product is vine crafts made from Akebia vines. It is close to Kanazawasaku (now Yokote City), which was the site of a battle during the Gosannen War, and Gosannen Station is located on the Ou Main Line.

秋田県中部，仙北郡の村。人口8803(1995)。横手盆地のほぼ中央部に位置し，村域の大部分は雄物川の沖積地と支流の厨川などの扇状地からなる。耕地の大部分が水田で，米の生産量，単位面積当り収量とも郡内では有数の水田単作農村である。奥羽本線，国道13号線が通じ交通の便に恵まれるが，横手市，大曲市に隣接し，商業はふるわない。特産にアケビのつるを原料とするつる細工がある。後三年の役の戦場となった金沢柵(現，横手市)に近く，奥羽本線には後三年駅がある。
