An old town in Agawa County, located in the Shikoku Mountains in the central-northern part of Kochi Prefecture. The main settlement, Ikegawa, was a key station on the Matsuyama Kaido road. The town produces tea and ferns, and also raises silkworms. The wood industry is thriving, producing cedar and cypress lumber. The Yasui Valley is located upstream of the Ikegawa River. In August 2005, the town was incorporated as a town, becoming Niyodogawa Town, Agawa County, after merging with Agawa Village, Agawa County, and Niyodo Village, Takaoka County. Area: 142.68 km2 . 高知県中北部,四国山地中にある吾川(あがわ)郡の旧町。主集落池川は松山街道の要駅であった。茶,ゼンマイを産し,養蚕も行う。スギ,ヒノキの用材を産し木工業が盛ん。池川川上流に安居(やすい)渓谷がある。2005年8月,吾川郡吾川村,高岡郡仁淀村と合併し町制,吾川郡仁淀川町となる。142.68km2。2386人(2003)。
