Born: May 29, 1588 in Paris
Died January 28, 1672. Saint-Germain-en-la-France. A senior official during the Bourbon dynasty. He became Minister of the Great Seal in 1633, and was appointed Grand Chancellor in 1635. He was active as a collaborator of Richelieu. In 1639, as a representative of the royal government, he carried out the brutal executions following the Nu-Pied Rebellion in Normandy. He sided with J. Mazarin during the Fronde. He was also a patron of the Académie Française and a document collector. His documents are valuable historical materials that provide insight into the realities of the regions and popular rebellions. His works include Lettres et Mémoires adressés au Chancelier Séguier (Reports to Grand Chancellor Séguier).
