Kitayashiki Shell Mound

Kitayashiki Shell Mound

...It is a semicircular site measuring approximately 180m east to west and 60m north to south. It is located on a beach ridge-like rubble bank about 2m above sea level, facing Fukue Bay, in the southwest of the Atsumi Peninsula, and about 1km west of the same rubble bank is the Kitayashiki shell mound from the middle Jomon period. Eight excavations have been carried out since 1903, primarily for the purpose of collecting human bones, and a total of more than 134 human bones have been unearthed.
