Mr. Aoyama

Japanese: 青山氏 - あおやまうじ

A fudai daimyo of the Edo period from Mikawa. It is said to be a descendant of the Iwatsu fudai who came to Mikawa around the time of the Nanboku-cho civil war and served Matsudaira Chikauji, the founder of the Tokugawa clan, but there are some unclear points. Historical records show that the Aoyama clan played an active role as a fudai subordinate general in Mikawa during the time of Tadakado, who served Ieyasu's father, Hirotada. After Hirotada's death, Tadakado became a close attendant to Ieyasu, and was distinguished by military achievements such as the Mikawa Ikko Ikki uprising. During the Genki era (1570-73), when the Takeda clan invaded Okazaki, he fortified his ancestral territory of Dodo village and played a role in the defense of Okazaki Castle.

三河出身の江戸時代の譜代大名。南北朝内乱のころ，三河に来て徳川氏の宗祖松平親氏に仕えた岩津譜代の家筋といわれるが不明な点がある。青山氏の三河譜代の部将としての活躍がみえるのは，史料上，家康の父広忠に仕えた忠門（ただかど）のときである。忠門は広忠死後，家康に近侍し，三河一向一揆などに戦功あり，元亀年代(1570‐73)には武田氏の岡崎侵攻にさいし，代々の領地百々（どうどう）村を要塞化して岡崎城防衛の任を果たした。
