Relics - Relique; relics

Japanese: 聖遺物 - せいいぶつ(英語表記)relique; relics
Relics - Relique; relics
The remains of a saint or objects that have come into contact with them (clothing, belongings). They are revered as a sign of veneration of the saint. In Christianity, veneration has been practiced since ancient times alongside the veneration of martyrs, and in the 4th century, veneration became more widespread after the discovery of the cross of Christ and relics of saints and the transfer of the relics to Constantinople, leading to exchanges, collections, and pilgrimages. Relics are placed in reliquaries and enshrined on altars or other places. Buying and selling is strictly prohibited. November 5th is the Feast Day of All Saints' Relics. In the East, veneration was focused on holy images. The Reformers rejected this. In Buddhism, the remains of the Buddha were distributed, and veneration is widespread with doctrinal support (relics, footprints, etc.). There is also a custom of veneration of holy relics in Islam.
