Teletex is a document processing device (word processor) with document creation, editing, and printing functions that also has communication functions, and can be considered a high-performance version of telex as a means of recorded communication. It began in 1976 when the West German Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications' "Committee for the Development of Communication Systems" proposed it to the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, and the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee began research into an international standard method called teletex, and at its general meeting in November 1980, it created recommendations on the basic method for document communication.
