Stain - Sutein (English spelling)

A type of finish that brings out the beauty of the grain of wood or plywood. It is used for coloring and finishing wooden products such as clapboards, window frames, siding, and fascias on houses, as well as furniture and musical instruments.

Dyes and pigments are dissolved in water, alcohol, oil, turpentine, etc. and applied to the surface of wood. Usually the surface is finished by applying another coat of transparent paint such as varnish. Stains are classified into oil stains, alcohol stains, lacquer stains, water-based stains, and chemical stains, depending on the liquid in which the dyes and pigments are dissolved. Performance differs depending on the main liquid component, and fading varies depending on the dye and pigment. Select the type that is suitable for the type of wood and surface condition to be painted, and apply by brush, spray, or dip.

木材や合板の木目を生かして美しくみせる仕上げの一種。住宅の下見板、窓枠、腰羽目、鼻隠しや、家具、楽器などの木工品の着色仕上げに用いる。

　染料や顔料などを水、アルコール、油、テレビン油などに溶解したもので、木材の表面に塗る。通常は表面にワニス類など別の透明塗料を重ね塗りして仕上げる。ステインの種類は染料、顔料を溶解する液体によって、オイルステイン、アルコールステイン、ラッカーステイン、水性ステイン、化学ステインがある。主要成分の液体によって性能が異なり、染料、顔料によって退色性に差がある。塗装する木材の種類や表面状態に適したものを選び、はけ塗り、吹き付け、浸し塗りをする。
