Kanjinbashi Bridge

...In the past, it was also called Kiyomizu Bridge because it was a pilgrimage route to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and the entry for June 25, 1139 in the Hyakurensho (Hyakurensho) reads, "It was a memorial service for Kiyomizu-dera Bridge." It is also called Kanjin Bridge because the monks of Kiyomizu-dera Temple went around collecting donations for the construction of the bridge. In 1408 (Oei 15), a charitable person donated funds, and the following spring, the bridge was completed, measuring over 86 jo in length and 24 shaku in width (Honcho Koso-den). ...

…古くは清水寺への参詣路であったため清水橋とも呼ばれ，《百錬抄》保延5年(1139)6月25日条に〈清水寺橋供養也〉とみえる。また架橋費用を清水寺僧侶が勧進してまわったことから勧進橋の名もある。1408年(応永15)には慈恩なる者が浄財を提供，翌年春，長さ86丈余，幅24尺余の橋を完成させたともみえる(《本朝高僧伝》)。…
