...In the past, it was also called Kiyomizu Bridge because it was a pilgrimage route to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and the entry for June 25, 1139 in the Hyakurensho (Hyakurensho) reads, "It was a memorial service for Kiyomizu-dera Bridge." It is also called Kanjin Bridge because the monks of Kiyomizu-dera Temple went around collecting donations for the construction of the bridge. In 1408 (Oei 15), a charitable person donated funds, and the following spring, the bridge was completed, measuring over 86 jo in length and 24 shaku in width (Honcho Koso-den). ...
